The Best Holiday Destinations Near Mumbai 

 

If you are going on holiday to India, you might want to look at destinations outside, but near to Mumbai. While Mumbai has a lot to offer, the immediate surrounding areas are just as exciting. There is a lot to see and do without having to travel too far. 

 

Lonavala 

One of the more popular destinations close to Mumbai is Lonavala and is the most visited by tourists and locals alike. This destination is ideal for anyone who wants to escape into the mountains with its twin hill resorts. The hills offer peace and tranquility that is hard to find in the bustling streets of Mumbai.  

Lonavala is only 93 km from Mumbai and offers a lot of different activities for everyone. The best time to visit will be the dry season of October to May. If you visit at the end of the monsoon, the hills will be draped in mist.

Matheran

Alibaug

There are direct connections from Mumbai, but the ferry will need to be taken from the beach in the southern part of Mumbai. Alibaug has a lot of activities for everyone, from beaches to ancient forts. There are a lot of different forts you should see while there as well as the Vikram Vinayak temple. Jawhar 

This small town is a little further from Mumbai than the other popular destinations at 155 km but is worth the journey. Anyone who loves cultural experiences should head there as it offers an in-depth background into the Warli tribes. The town is famous for the Warli paintings and traditional art on display.  

The best time to visit this town is between September and April. There are a lot of indoor and outdoor attractions to enjoy, including the Warli arts and crafts, Jai Vilas Palace and Sunset Point. 

Igatpuri 

Nestled in the Western Ghats is Igatpuri, which is considered one of the best destinations for couples. The picturesque setting and serene environment create a romantic getaway for anyone wanting to spend some time with their partner. There are multiple options for accommodation like Hotels and private villas in Igatpuri to choose from. There is also a lot to do in and around Igatpuri, making it ideal for any couples.
