Bosch Dishwasher Recall

BSH Home Appliances

Over the past 2 years the manufacturer of Bosch and a few other dishwasher brands have recalled over 1,000,000 dishwashers due to a power cord that can overheat and cause a serious fire. The company’s dishwashers includes in the recall are Bosch, Thermador, Gaggenau and Jenn-Air.

Consumer Product Safety Commission

In 2015 Bosch reported 15 incidents of power cords overheating to the point of fire. Bosch stated in a public announcement that the dishwashers were only overheating when they were in use. Due to the quick recalls by Bosch no injuries have taken place.

For safety reasons Bosch decided to recall select models that have been created over the span of the last seven years. The recall covers models from February 2008 to February 2017, and colors ranging from black, white, stainless steel and custom panel.

Although it seems like a rare occasion dishwasher fires are actually very common. All dishwashers contain a very powerful heating element that is used to dry your dishes, these elements get wet, heat up and cool down. If your element gets old or faulty it can start a fire. It’s recommended to contact a professional like the ones at https://www.valleyviewappliances.com/ to evaluate your dishwasher to see if a heating element is faulty. If you are ever unsure if your dishwasher is safe to use, consider unplugging it and waiting for an authorized technician to come out and have a look.

What to do if your dishwasher is listed on the recall?

Bosch has stated that if you own a dishwasher that is listed on the recall list you should immediately stop using it and contact them directly. Bosch will issue a technician to come out and do a free inspection and replacement of the power cord. The whole process takes less than an hour so you won’t need to set a full day aside to fix the potential fire hazard.

In the last seven years if you have purchased a Boch, Thermador, Gaggenau or Jenn-Air dishwasher, check the CPSC recall notice to see if your dishwasher has been labeled as a potential fire hazard. https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2018/BSH-Home-Appliances-Expands-Recall-of-Dishwashers or you can call the Bosch hotline at 403-247-9602 to find out if your model has been effected.

Before you call or go online, make sure to check your model and serial number. Each model and serial number will be unique to your dishwasher and can be found on the top inner door panel or on the side of the door panel. Once you have located this information all you need to do is enter it online or call the number in to see if your dishwasher is safe to use.

How to recall the model and serial number

Most of the detail numbers are printed inside the dishwasher. Once you have located your model and serial number, enter your full model number, the first 4 digits after FD and your 5 digit production code and then check the recall status.

If your model has been affected you will be able to register your model on the site and immediately receive help from a Bosch trained technician

Dishwasher fires can be scary and potentially deadly, make sure to exercise caution when using your Boch, Thermador, Gaggenau or Jenn-Air dishwasher before checking the model and production code online. It only takes a second and could potentially save a life.
