The three different types of cloud services

In the modern-day world, we have become so much dependent upon technology that we can’t even imagine living a single day without the advanced technological solution. The amazing technological innovations have allowed to step towards the future at a much faster face and even helped us to get a glimpse of the futuristic technologies. Modern-day marvels like AI is setting benchmarks for other technological advancement and even at its infant stage, we are able to use it on a very vast field. Along with amazing technological innovations like AI, big data and machine learning, there is one more technological miracle which has done wonders for businesses and our daily lives and that amazing technology is known as cloud computing.

If you look back at the roots of cloud computing then you will have to go back to 1980 when the first attempt to connect network and people was made. Although, during that era, cloud wasn’t that much developed, such small attempts helped us to shape the cloud computing technology in the form in which we witness it today. Now cloud computing has become an integral part of the human race and from social media platforms to app development, cloud is being used everywhere.

Even with so much involvement in daily life and businesses, many people don’t know about the various deployment models and services of cloud. If we will try to cover both deployment model and services of cloud then it will become difficult for you to understand them in detail and that’s why, in this blog post we will only talk about the different cloud computing models on the basis of service and in the next blog, we will discuss about the different cloud computing form on the basis of their deployment models.

There are three types of cloud computing form on the basis of service and that’s what we will discuss now in detail.

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

The cloud Infrastructure services which is popularly known as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) comprises of highly scalable and automated computer services. In the IaaS form of cloud computing service, full self-service for accessing and monitoring IT solutions like computer, networking, storage and other services if provided. BY choosing IaaS, businesses are able to buy resources on demand and as per requirement instead of buying hardware up front. The IaaS providers offer the cloud servers and the related resources through dashboard or API. The clients in the case of IaaS have direct access to their server and storage just like traditional server but with the added advantage of higher scalability. You should know that IaaS is one of the most flexible cloud services in comparison to the other two.

The IaaS offers cloud computing infrastructure which is comprised of servers, network, operating system, and storage via virtualization technology. As discussed above, the IaaS offers the same technology of traditional data center but without the hassle of maintaining it physically. All the IaaS clients can access their servers directly and it is all outsourced through virtual data center in the cloud.

Common advantages of IaaS

  • More flexible than the other two options
  • Easy automated deployment of storage, network, server, and processing power
  • Highly scalable
  • Resources can be bought as per need
  • Allows clients to have complete control of their infrastructure

Common characteristics of IaaS

  • The resources are offered as a service
  • All the services comes with the advantage of high scalability
  • Dynamic and easily flexible
  • Multiple users on a single hardware

Software as a Service (SaaS)

The Software as a Service which is also known as cloud application service is one of the most commonly used cloud options by businesses from all over the globe. The Software as a Service uses internet for delivering the application which is managed by a third party hosting provider. A wide range of Saas applications can be used directly from the web browser and that’s why it wipes out the hassle of downloading and installing the application on the client’s desktop or laptop. The SaaS is the biggest cloud market and it is growing at a very fast pace. In this cloud service, the client needs to subscribe to the application and then access it through web browser or third party API. The SaaS option is very economical and you can easily see it in the QuickBooks Enterprise hosting pricing

Common advantages of Software as a Service

  • Wipes out the hassle of installing, managing and updating software
  • Frees up technical staff to focus on jobs with higher value
  • No need to have extra IT staff for managing the business applications
  • Round the clock customer support from third party hosting provider

Common characteristics of Software as a Service

  • Hosted on remote server
  • Accessible through internet
  • Managed from central location

Platform as a Service (PaaS)

The cloud platform service which is popularly known as Platform as a Service offers cloud component for particular software solutions while being used more for applications. The PaaS offers framework for developers on which they can build upon and use for making customize applications. Everything from server to storage can be managed by the third party provider while the developers handle the management of the application. You should know that the delivery model of Paas is almost similar to Saas. The only difference is the delivery of the software over the internet which is not available in PaaS as it offers a platform for software development. With the help of PaaS, businesses are able to design and create applications that are built into the PaaS with special software components.

Common advantages of PaaS

  • Highly scalable
  • Highly available
  • Enhances automation in business processes
  • Easy development of applications

Common characteristics of PaaS

  • Bothe web services and database are integrated
  • Various users can work on same development applications
  • Offers a wide range of services to help in the development process
